About the show


The Trail to Oregon by Team Starkid is a comedy musical parody of the video game, The Oregon Trail.
Set in the Wild West, it follows an all-American family who seek a better life in Oregon. They travel down the trail but not everyone will make it, and it's up to the audience to decide!

 

It is a fun, comedy filled show with many opportunities to improvise.

Actor requirements
● Comedy skills a plus.
● Acting and singing focused.
● Looking for actors who can improvise and interact with the audience.
● Ability to do choreographed movement - this is not a dance heavy show, but there is rhythmic moving, and simple chore.

AUDITION DATES

MARCH 8th : 6pm - enter through rear door.
MARCH 9th : 1pm - 4pm - Enter through main mall entrance.

CALLBACKS MARCH 9th - 6pm - enter through rear door. - choreographed movement at this audition. Dress accordingly. Improv, and cold reads.

Seeking a diverse cast of non-union, Actors.

Performers of all ethnic backgrounds, body types, and gender identities are strongly encouraged to audition.

 

ROLES AVAILABLE

 

Father
● The leader of the journey down the trail. Has to learn to accept responsibility for his actions to save his family. ‘Bumbling dad’ who is like another child to his wife. While determined to get to Oregon, he manages to create more problems at every opportunity.


Actor requirements
● Any gender comfortable performing a paternal role. Ages 20+
● Dramatic Tenor
● Confident actor willing to look ‘foolish’ on stage. Comfortable with improv and audience interaction.
● High energy role
● Western accent not required
● Not dance heavy

Mother
● Loves her children like a mama bear, though that’s not always obvious.
● She appears to be the only sane person is her family and is a stereotypical sitcom mother. She is always tying to keep things together with her children and childish husband.
● Balance between sweet and gentle and tough and ruthless
● Always having to tone down her husband's silly ideas.
● Fun fact: She often fakes her death to guilt trip her daughter.

Actor requirements
● Any gender comfortable performing a maternal role
● Ages 20 +
● Mezzo-Soprano OR Soprano
● Western accent not required
● Not dance heavy

Daughter
● Rebellious first born of mother and father and fights constantly with her family. Instantly charmed and wooed by the Bandit King (a love for bad boys and boys her mother hates)
● Wishes her family would disappear until they actually do, and she has a wake up call.
● Tough, independent, bratty teenager.


Actor requirements
● Female presenting
● Ages 20+
● Mezzo-Soprano OR Soprano
● Strong singer
● Western accent not required
● Not dance heavy

Son
● The youngest family member. Not too clever (eats a lot of things and throws objects off the wagon)
● Very curious and is a sweet and sensitive 7 year old child
● Catch phrase: "I don’t know."


Actor requirements
● Female presenting
● Ages 20 +
● Deadpan comedy
● Between Alto to Mezzo-Soprano
● Western accent not required
● Not dance heavy

Grandfather/Cletus
● Grandfather: The oldest member of the family waiting to die. Because of his unpredictable nature everyone thinks he is crazy, but that may not be quite right.
● Cletus: Genuinely in love with McDoon- Unwavering loyalty to McDoon. Supposed to be this great bandit but is actually very sweet.


Actor requirements
● Male presenting
● Ages 20+
● Baritone to Tenor
● Confident actor
● Western accent not required
● Not dance heavy

McDoon/Bandit + everyone else
● Overly macho to a point it is sad
● Is quite politely up front about his intentions towards the daughter
● Is in a relationship with Cletus but does not consider it love


Actor requirements
● Male presenting
● Ages 20+
● Tenor
● Strong, character-based actor
● High demanding role (frequently changing characters mid-scene)
